Then I got the Steamroller, which I also broke. After that, I picked up the Brooklyn Machine Works Gangsta, then got the Fairweather Track, which felt weird to me.<br \/>\nI got myself another Steamroller, then tried the All-City Big Block. And then I ordered myself an Indy Fab frame, that perfectly fits my body, then eventually got a Mash Steel since I wanted to reminisce the old days. Finally, I got the T.I.E which is the frame I designed myself.<\/p>\n<p>One thing I&#8217;d like to say is that the Steamroller has something special that I couldn&#8217;t experience from all the models listed above.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-179190\" src=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843-1280x960.jpeg 1280w, https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843-1720x1290.jpeg 1720w, https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_9843.jpeg 1980w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething special&#8221; is a very vague word, but I used the expression since there&#8217;s a lot complex elements to this feeling I feel on this bike, such as the balance of the angles, lengths, and strength of the tubes that make up the frame is what defines a bicycle, and the Steamroller\u00a0 had a one-of-a-kind combination of these elements, and I suspect that hasn\u2019t changed to this day.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I think its design was so unique among fixed-gear frames from the moment it was released that there simply isn\u2019t anything else like it.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Interview with Wakeman -House of Looptail x Blue Lug-\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xfKdorvB5oo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The founder of Surly talked about that in this video,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_1327.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-179191\" src=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_1327.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1213\" height=\"824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_1327.jpeg 1213w, https:\/\/tsubasa-jp.pro\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_1327-768x522.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1213px) 100vw, 1213px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this explanation of the frame by our staff Supply is very accurate, it goes;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf you know a lot about bikes, you may notice that the geometry of this frame is closer to a road bike, rather than a typical track frame. This goes the same with how it rides.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This may depend on how you build the bike, but I feel like the Steamroller is a very average bike. It doesn&#8217;t have an outstanding features that boost performance or anything, but it&#8217;s really easy to ride. It feels nice and comfy, as it should on a steel frame.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s a single speed frame, so you may want to ride it with fixed gear, but I would recommend riding this bike with freewheels.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It doesn&#8217;t have a lot of braze ons and eyelets like other Surlys. You might able to put racks &amp; fenders if you put in the work, so I encourage you to try it. You could even do some wacky experiments with it, if you really want to.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Just give it a try\ud83d\udd25&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yes, it&#8217;s just an <strong>\u201caverage single speed frame that is super durable&#8221;<\/strong>. There&#8217;s no accurate explanation than this, in my opinion and I think that this is what is special about the Steamroller. It made us very sad when we first heard that they would be discontinued.<\/p>\n<p>We were just wishing for them to continue making this simple and primitive bike, no matter how the world moves on.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine a lot of riders around the world had the same thoughts, and it makes me happy that Surly had made the decision as a result. I guess I am stoked about the comeback after all. That\u2019s an undeniable fact.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s go back to basics and build it with 700c wheels, but if you\u2019re the kind of contrarian who won\u2019t listen to reason, give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>I think the combination of <a href=\"https:\/\/global.tsubasa-jp.pro\/velocity-a23-rim-black.html\">this<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/global.tsubasa-jp.pro\/teravail-rampart-tire-black-tan.html\">this<\/a> might work for 650B conversion.
