An amazing rain wear is born. The Ultralight Rain Jackets<\/a> and Pants<\/a>. You can read more about the products in Max’s blog HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate enough to test out the products in The Japanese Odyssey event that I participated, which is mentioned in Max’s blog. The event mostly took places in the touge (mountain pass) of Japan. Touges typically has rapidly changing weather, so the 13.5 day\/2300km ride was very harsh.<\/p>\n

This was an Ultra Distance Cycling Event, so rain wear was one of an essential. I could only bring a limited amount of gear, so I had a difficult time deciding which rain wear to pack until the last minute.<\/p>\n

The samples of the gear miraculously arrived a week before I left Tokyo for the event and the product managers of Blue Lug had offered me to test out the rain wear at The Japanese Odyssey. Everything came together perfectly.<\/p>\n

As you could see by the images above, I was very surprised by how small they become when packed. The last pic is a comparison of the new Fairweather Rain Jacket & Pants and the Endura pants and Patagonia jacket that I was originally planning on using for TJO.<\/p>\n

Rain wear tends to be bulky, event though they are packable. However, the Fairweather Ultralight Jacket and Pants becomes in the size of your palms, which is a huge advantage.<\/p>\n

I had them packed in my frame bag for the majority of the time, but I also would slip it in the jersey pocket when the weather was unstable.<\/p>\n

The material used for the product is called the PERTEX\u00ae<\/strong> SHIELD,<\/b>Waterproof but soft and breathable. I do believe that rain ponchos are enough for just riding around your neighborhood, but when it comes to a long and high speed ride, it would be way better to have soft and compact rain gear for better mobility and packability.<\/p>\n

If you are not a big fan of wearing ponchos for a long time, or you don’t like the sticky feeling of riding with GORE-TEX gear, the PERTEX\u00ae SHIELD material will solve everything, thanks to how quick they become dry.<\/p>\n

This feature saved me a lot of the times while I was riding. I wish everyone could experience them!<\/p>\n

I often choose medium for both jackets and pants, but I chose a large for the pants. The reason for this in the pant bottom. I chose the large size because I want all of my leg to hide under the pants when I’m pedaling to avoid from my socks getting wet.<\/p>\n

There is an S hook on the bottom, so that you could hook it up to your shoe lace, making the hems to sit still while riding. A loop is also equipped on the opposite side of the hook, so you could cinch the hems.<\/p>\n
