This is the disc brake cross frame. (Although Rock Lobster\u2019s Paul had a bike there, it seems he didn\u2019t attend himself.)<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"MADE BIKE SHOW 2025 Portland\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bluelug\/54759959796\/in\/album-72177720328774583\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54759959796_5afcd06603_h.jpg\" alt=\"MADE BIKE SHOW 2025 Portland\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Among frame builders, some infuse their signature details into the smallest elements, while others (in a good way) keep things less flashy, treating the frame simply as one component that fulfills its function.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d say KELLY falls more into the latter category, and though I may be biased, I sense a similar vibe from Rock Lobster, so seeing them share a booth felt strangely fitting.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"*KELLY* cyclocross\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bluelug\/55146725761\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55146725761_6e40da1296_h.jpg\" alt=\"*KELLY* cyclocross\" width=\"1067\" height=\"1600\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This bike is originally a geared frame, but I\u2019ve built it as a single-speed cross bike using <a href=\"https:\/\/global.tsubasa-jp.pro\/catalogsearch\/result\/?q=melvin\">Paul Component\u2019s Melvin Chain Tensioner.<\/a> While the clean, minimalist feel to single speed bikes is somewhat gone by the clutter created by this single added part, I think it\u2019s a part with enough charm to make you want to convert to a single speed just to install the Melvin. Also, while disc brake mounts are often the same on both the front and rear of off-the-shelf bikes, they differ on this one. The price and quality are out of balance, and on top of that, why on earth do they still keep it in production when it\u2019s so out of step with the times\u2026?<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s one of the most puzzling parts out there (though the R780 is another). It\u2019s a SHIMANO legacy model that I hope they\u2019ll continue producing for a long time to come.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"*KELLY* cyclocross\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bluelug\/55146725791\/in\/photolist-2s23N5R-2s28o9U-2s28ohz-2s28oi6-2s28osQ-2s29dhj-2s29dBh-2s29dBC-2s29zLc-2s29zLH-2s29zTw-2s29A1L-2s29A2n-2s2ajUT-2s2akah-2s2akhS-2s2aktU-2s2akBz-2s2akKW-2s2akLC\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55146725791_11359063ba_h.jpg\" alt=\"*KELLY* cyclocross\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>We still have a few of these GRX Limited edition silver cranks in stock. It&#8217;s a subtle detail not found on SHIMANO\u2019s current lineup and seeing them casually mounted on a single speed build like this makes it look nice. We chose to use these hubs, of which only a few pairs made it to Japan, on this special bike. That means the headset is, of course, also from Philwood. I\u2019m incredibly grateful that they\u2019ve made a model compatible with this suspension fork.
