You see a lot of Monstercross builds with canti brakes.
And when I’m building one, there’s this little thing I always kinda enjoy messing around with.
That something would be running the front brake cable over the stem. It gives the cable a much nicer, gentler line into the hanger.
If you run your bars pretty low, the routing just ends up this way anyway, but I think it’s got that nice old-school look.
I’ll sometimes move the cable hanger a little off-center too, just to keep the cable from getting pulled at a weird angle.
Of course, this might make the brake feel off, so I’ll play around with the spring tension on each side until everything moves nice and straight again.
The Paul canti brakes has a lot of room for adjustments, so it’s always easy to work on!
Running the cable through the middle of a Bullmoose bar, like you’d see on an old MTBs is one of those things that I wanted to try for a long time.
Cable routing is such a small thing, but I love seeing how different mechanics deal with it. Everyone’s got their own little tricks.
If you work on your own bike, try messing around with the cable routing!
